Somerville police report string of assaults, robbery and arrest

SOMERVILLE — Somerville Police have been responding to a series of assaults, a robbery, and an arrest involving gunshots and a stolen weapon in recent days, according to official reports.

The first incident occurred on June 5, at around 3:50 p.m., when officers were called to 60 Washington St. A woman reported she was pushed by a male on a bike while walking home, causing her to fall and sustain minor injuries.

The next day, at about 10:38 p.m., police responded to a robbery near Canal Ln’s basketball courts.

A woman informed officers her son was robbed by an older male who took the youth’s phone and hoodie during an argument with several juveniles.

On June 8, at approximately 8:08 p.m., another assault was reported at 406 Highland Ave.

The victim claimed he was threatened with a firearm or knife by a male driving a red Hyundai Sonata after a traffic dispute.

A similar incident occurred on June 9 around 4:45 p.m. at Highland Ave & Walnut St. A juvenile riding his bike was allegedly strangled by a male driver during an altercation.

Police identified the suspect following the assault.

Earlier that same day, at 2:02 p.m., officers were dispatched to 460 Mystic Ave for an assault involving two females known to each other.

One woman was accused of grabbing the other by the neck during an argument.

Amid these assaults, police made an arrest on June 10, at about 11:23 p.m., after responding to reports of gunshots fired into a home on Fennell St. A male suspect matching a witness description was apprehended at 1165 Broadway, found with a loaded Glock stolen from Reading, MA.

In addition to these violent crimes, Somerville Police also reported two package thefts, two motor vehicle thefts, two instances of motor vehicle vandalism, two bike thefts, and one car break-in.

The department is investigating all incidents and has identified suspects in several of the assault cases.
