Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Orange

ORANGE — A man was fatally shot by a Vermont state trooper on Wednesday afternoon during an incident in Orange.

The shooting took place around 1:25 p.m. outside a residence on Spencer Road, according to the Vermont State Police.

The man, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The involved trooper was not harmed and was sent to Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin for a precautionary evaluation.

An investigation has been launched, involving the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, uniformed troopers from the Field Force Division, and the Victim Services Unit.

Additionally, the Crime Scene Search Team is set to process the area where the shooting occurred.

The body of the deceased has been scheduled for an autopsy at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington to determine the cause of death and aid in identifying the man.

In accordance with standard procedures, the name of the trooper who discharged their weapon will be disclosed the day following the incident.
