BRIDGEPORT — A 24-year-old city man was arrested Tuesday night accused of firing multiple gunshots at a motorcyclist on Stratford Avenue in broad daylight last week.
Javon Beal was taken into custody without incident around 6 p.m. by Bridgeport Task Force officers and the Bridgeport Police Homicide Squad, inside a local store at the intersection of Stratford and Hollister Avenues.
Beal, a convicted felon, had two active warrants at the time of his arrest, one in connection with the attempted shooting on Stratford Avenue.
He faces charges including Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, and Larceny in the Sixth Degree on a separate warrant.
His total bond was set at $275,000.
The investigation led by Detective Keith Hanson of the Homicide Squad revealed that on June 5, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Beal allegedly fired multiple rounds at a male operating a red dirt bike traveling eastbound through the intersection of Union Avenue and Stratford Avenue.
Beal reportedly fired the shots while standing in the middle of the street and then fled on foot.
The incident has caused outrage in the East End community, particularly as it occurred midday on a busy street and near Dunbar School.
Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter Sr. and Detective Bureau Captain Kevin Gilleran prioritized the case, resulting in an expedited arrest, with the arrest warrant signed within four days of the incident.
Chief Porter has also ordered extra uniformed patrols in the affected area.
