PLYMOUTH — A fight between two men in North Plymouth escalated to gruesome violence early Sunday morning when one man had part of his ear bitten off.

Plymouth Police Department responded to a chaotic scene after receiving multiple calls over the weekend that included domestic violence arrests, suicide attempts, missing persons, car accidents, and disturbances.

The violent incident occurred around 1 a.m. after Michael O’Driscoll, 39, of Plymouth, and a 40-year-old Dorchester man returned from a daylong sightseeing cruise followed by drinking at local bars.

An argument at a North Plymouth residence turned physical, and during the altercation, O’Driscoll overpowered the other man and bit off a portion of his ear, despite the victim’s pleas.

Upon arrival, officers found a two-inch piece of the victim’s ear preserved in a cup of ice water.

O’Driscoll was arrested and charged with assault and battery with serious bodily injury and mayhem.
