Man arrested in Williston for fugitive warrants, false ID

WILLISTON — A New Hampshire man was taken into custody on Interstate 89 after providing false identification to police and being found with two active warrants from his home state.

Michael Edwards, 38, of Groveton, was stopped by state troopers near the Williston Rest Area for speeding at 1:29 p.m. on June 7.

During the traffic stop, Edwards initially gave a false name to the authorities.

Further investigation revealed his true identity and the existence of two extraditable warrants from New Hampshire.

Edwards was arrested without incident and brought to the Williston Police Department for processing.

After processing, he was held on $6,000 bail.

Edwards is scheduled to appear at the Chittenden County Superior Court-Criminal Division on June 10 at 8:30 a.m. to face charges of being a Fugitive from Justice and providing False Information to a Police Officer.
