WATERFORD — The Waterford Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect believed to be involved in the theft of nearly $1,000 worth of fishing poles from Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The department reached out through social media to residents in the Jewett City, Lisbon, and Hopeville areas, hoping that followers might have information about the individual.

According to the police, the suspect may be utilizing the $989.92 worth of stolen fishing gear for angling activities in the area where the theft occurred.

Authorities clarified that while the fish caught with the stolen rods should not be confiscated by the public, any sightings of the suspect or relevant information should be promptly reported.

The department has acknowledged awareness of the vehicle’s license plate involved in the crime and confirmed that the owner of the car is not the suspect in question.

However, they noted that the individual they are seeking might be associated with that vehicle, especially if spotted near fishing spots with new rods in the Jewett City vicinity.

The Waterford Police have followed up on the vehicle’s information, but they are still working to identify the person pictured in their post.

They have encouraged the community to share their appeal and have provided contact details for those who may have information.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has any information is urged to contact Officer Rogers at 860-442-9451 ext. 2269.

The department also welcomes private messages through their social media platform.
