BURLINGTON — The North Country Union High School girls and boys track and field teams both finished 9th overall at the Division 1 state championships held at Burlington High School on Saturday.
The highlight of the meet for the Falcons was Sabine Brueck’s outstanding performance. Brueck set a new state record in the 300m hurdles with a time of 43.96 seconds, earning her the state championship in the event. She also claimed the state title in the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.93 seconds. Brueck rounded out her impressive day with a 2nd place finish in the triple jump and a 3rd place finish in the long jump, both personal bests.
Other top performers for the girls team included Josi Fortin, who placed 6th in the shot put with a personal best and 9th in the discus, and Amelia Larsen, who finished 11th in both the shot put and javelin.
Myrah Kearse placed 20th in the 200m with a personal best and also set a personal best in the 100m preliminaries. Mara Bowers finished 16th in the 1500m, and Charli Kellaway placed 19th in the 300m hurdles.
The girls 4x800m relay team (Willow Clements, Dylan Carr, Alina Horne, Mara Bowers) and the 4x400m relay team (Willow Clements, Carli Kellaway, Alina Horne, Myrah Kearse) both finished 7th in their respective events.
On the boys side, Jason Pelletier led the way with a 2nd place finish in the high jump, setting a personal best, and a 12th place finish in the long jump, also a personal best. AJ Esposito placed 5th in the 800m with a personal best and 15th in the 1500m. Koyle Dennis finished 10th in the 200m and 11th in the 400m, both personal bests, while Vincent Mutter placed 18th in the 200m and set a personal best in the 100m preliminaries.
Other notable performances for the boys included Zander Johansson’s 8th place finishes in the javelin (personal best) and shot put, Watson Laffoon’s 6th place finish in the javelin (personal best) and 9th place finish in the discus, and Josh Isabelle’s 11th place finish in the high jump (personal best), 13th place finish in the javelin (personal best), and 14th place finish in the pole vault.
The boys 4x400m relay team (Vincent Mutter, AJ Esposito, Cooper Wheeler, Koyle Dennis) placed 9th, while the 4x100m relay team (Koyle Dennis, Cooper Wheeler, Vincent Mutter, Levi Brewer) finished 11th.
