Man faces multiple charges after traffic stop in Barnstable reveals drugs, firearm

BARNSTABLE — A routine traffic stop on Main Street late Sunday night led to the arrest of a Providence, Rhode Island, man after police found a handgun and drugs in a hidden compartment of his vehicle.

Officers Kristina Gustafson and John Gardiner pulled over a Red Jeep Grand Cherokee for several traffic violations at 9:45 p.m. After Gustafson returned to her cruiser to check the driver’s license status, the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Frenyi Mieses, sped away from the scene.

Barnstable Police caught up to Mieses about one mile from the initial stop and conducted a second traffic stop.

Upon removing Mieses from his vehicle, officers discovered the dashboard had been altered and found a hidden compartment.

Inside, they located a 9 mm handgun, 45 grams of Fentanyl, and 4 grams of cocaine.

Mieses was charged with Trafficking More than 36 Grams of Fentanyl, Possession to Distribute Class B Cocaine, Failure to Stop for Police, and several firearms violations, including Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm and Possession of a Firearm during a Felony.

He was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Tuesday and was held on Dangerousness.
