BRANFORD — In a tense series of events last night, Branford police arrested a local man following a dangerous driving incident that culminated in a head-on collision and subsequent police chase.

At 7:32 p.m. on May 27, authorities received reports of a vehicle driving erratically eastbound on East Main St. Witnesses observed the vehicle going up on a curb and swerving into oncoming traffic.

The driver, later identified as Paul G. Raffone, 52, of North Branford, continued on the wrong side of the road beneath the I-95 Exit 55 overpass where he collided with another vehicle.

Following the collision, Raffone did not stop to assist the individual in the vehicle he struck, who suffered minor injuries and declined additional treatment at the scene.

Instead, Raffone fled, leading police on a pursuit that ended near Business Park Dr.

After being stopped, Raffone was subjected to field sobriety tests, which he failed.

He was then arrested and faces multiple charges including operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility, operating under suspension, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, and failure to drive in the proper lane.
