1 min read

SKOWHEGAN — A routine response to a traffic accident on Route 2 near the Town Line in Canaan by Skowhegan Police last week resulted in an unexpected drug and firearm seizure.

Officer Benaiah Willhoite arrived at the scene to find no injuries reported, but two notable safety violations: a camper trailer hitched incorrectly and, more alarmingly, a substantial amount of drugs and a firearm in the vehicle.

The Skowhan Police advised against using a 2 5/8-inch trailer ball on a 2-inch hitch, which could lead to traffic hazards.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered 230.9 grams of methamphetamine in the possession of the driver, along with a handgun.

K9 Reece, a member of the Skowhegan Police force, was present in town and aided in the detection of the contraband.

Officer Willhoite, along with Officer Grady, Officer Lafrenier, and Detective Bachelder, were commended for their thorough work in handling the incident.

Chief Bucknam praised the officers for their diligence, stating that their efforts ensure Skowhegan remains a safe community for residents and visitors alike.

The case remains under investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
