Police warn of scam calls impersonating Dukes County deputies

1 min read

EDGARTOWN — The Edgartown Police Department issued a warning Monday after receiving numerous reports of scam phone calls from individuals posing as Dukes County Sheriff’s deputies and even using the names of local Edgartown officers.

According to authorities, the fraudulent callers claim the recipient has an outstanding warrant and threaten arrest unless payment is made immediately.

The Edgartown Police Department made it clear that these calls are not legitimate and that neither the police nor the Dukes County Sheriff’s Office would solicit payments over the phone in such a manner.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and to not provide personal information or money to unsolicited callers.

Anyone who receives such a call is advised to hang up and report the incident to the Edgartown Police Department.
