NEWPORT — The Lake Region Rangers secured two top-6 finishes, qualifying athletes for the New England Championships.
Heather Alexander set a new school record in the javelin, placing 2nd, an improvement from her 4th place finish last year. Alexander is currently ranked 1st in Division 3 heading into states next week.
Justin Young achieved 5th place in the boys high jump, surpassing his 6th place finish from last year. Luc Oliver placed 7th in the boys long jump and could advance to the New England Championships if one of the top-6 does not enter.
Competing against the best athletes from all divisions in Vermont, several other Rangers secured top-30 finishes. Both 300m hurdlers placed 22nd, with Maeda Urie winning her heat in 54.2 seconds and Ethan Gratton-Derbyshire finishing in 46.5 seconds.
Adler Lahar placed 13th in the javelin and 22nd in the 400m. Sylvie Brownlow achieved 14th place with her best throw ever in the shot put, while Brooklyn Hinton finished 19th.
In girls discus, Hinton led the way in 11th, followed by Midson Bowman in 13th and Brownlow in 18th. Maeda Urie placed 15th in the high jump, and Heather Alexander finished 23rd.
