ORLAND — A quick response from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department led to the arrest of a Surry man in connection with a burglary in Orland.
At 11:23 p.m. on May 21, the Hancock Regional Communications Center received a report from an Orland resident whose garage had been burglarized.
The homeowner noticed an activated exterior motion light and spotted an unknown truck nearby.
As the resident approached, the vehicle fled, and the burglary was discovered.
Sgt. Marcus Downes and Deputy Kamren Jennings arrived at the scene, finding that approximately $4,530 worth of items, including construction tools, chainsaws, and an outboard motor, had been stolen.
Within 36 hours, Deputy Jennings interviewed potential witnesses and reviewed security footage, leading to the identification of a suspect.
After obtaining a search warrant for a residence in Surry, officers executed the warrant late on May 23.
The stolen items were recovered and arrangements were made to return them to the owner.
Shane Grindle, 49, was taken into custody and charged with burglary.
He was transported to the Hancock County Jail without incident.
The Ellsworth Police Department assisted in the execution of the search warrant.
