HAMPTON — Two people were injured Thursday when their car struck a concrete barrier at the Hampton Toll Plaza on Interstate 95.

State Police reported the accident occurred at about 4:11 p.m. near the cash toll collection area.

Troopers from Troop A barracks found a 2013 Nissan Altima operated by Thomas Lynch, 78, of North Andover, Massachusetts, had crashed into the barrier before coming to a stop between two barriers.

The passenger, whose identity was not released, suffered serious injuries and was unconscious.

Trooper Daniel Bourque broke the car’s rear passenger-side window to reach the injured occupant.

Emergency medical personnel transported both Lynch and the passenger to a local hospital.

The Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit joined Troop A to probe the crash, closing four northbound lanes for about two and a half hours.

The open road toll lanes and two other lanes remained open, with all lanes reopening by 6:39 p.m.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
