CHICOPEE — A suspect wanted for a series of bank frauds along the East Coast was arrested Tuesday at a local bank after a teller’s alertness thwarted an attempted larceny using a fake ID.
Chicopee Police Department officers responded at 1:39 p.m. to the bank where the teller had recognized suspicious activity.
The male suspect, identified as 62-year-old Christopher Fetters of Folcroft, Pennsylvania, was attempting a large withdrawal when apprehended.
Investigation confirmed the suspect’s license was forged.
Fetters was wanted in Orange County, Florida, and Doylestown, Pennsylvania, for similar crimes.
The branch manager informed officers that multiple local branches were investigating Fetters for numerous thefts.
Fetters has been charged with identity fraud, attempted larceny, possession or use of a false or stolen RMV document, misleading a police officer, and being a fugitive from justice on a court warrant.
The Chicopee Police Department commended the bank teller for her quick thinking and actions, which allowed the timely arrest of the suspect.
