BILLERICA — A routine patrol led to the arrest of a Woburn man Tuesday evening after a police officer discovered a loaded handgun in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

At about 7:30 p.m., Officer C.

Devito of the Billerica Police was monitoring the Pinehurst area when he spotted a white Acura TLX with excessively tinted windows, a violation of state law.

Upon further investigation, Devito found that the car’s registered owner had a suspended driver’s license.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Gerson Melchor Ramos of Woburn, was pulled over and arrested for the vehicle infractions.

During an inventory search of the Acura, a loaded 9mm handgun was found under the driver’s seat.

Ramos was not licensed to possess the firearm, police said.

Ramos now faces multiple charges including operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, having obstructed non-transparent windows, and several firearm-related offenses such as possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, and possession of ammunition.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Wednesday.
