New Haven firefighters battle blaze, rescue residents

NEW HAVEN — A structure fire erupted late Monday night on the corner of Sherman Avenue and Maple Street, with flames reportedly pouring from the first floor of the building.

The New Haven Fire Department responded to the scene at approximately 11:20 p.m. and were actively battling the fire.

Firefighters made entry into the affected structure and successfully rescued two individuals from the second level.

Officials have confirmed that no injuries have been reported so far.

Crews continued to douse the fire and conduct thorough searches for any additional occupants that might have been inside at the time the fire broke out.

In response to the emergency, local police have closed off the surrounding area to all vehicular traffic to ensure the safety of the responders and the public.
