DERBY LINE — State police troopers responded to an assault report on Ducharme Drive this morning involving a household member. Trevor Smith, 42, was arrested on multiple charges following the incident.

The charges against Smith include second-degree aggravated domestic assault, second-degree unlawful restraint, interference with access to emergency services, and committing an offense in the presence of a child.

Upon arrival, troopers found evidence indicating that Smith had assaulted a known party, forcibly restricted the person’s movement, and impeded a witness’s ability to contact 911, all in the presence of a child.

When troopers attempted to arrest Smith at approximately 8:50 a.m., he resisted, attempted to flee, and engaged in a physical altercation with the arresting officers. During the struggle, one trooper was contaminated with human feces. Smith was eventually subdued and taken into custody.

While being transported to the VSP Derby Barracks for processing, Smith contaminated the patrol car with body fluids and attempted to damage the vehicle door. Upon arrival at the barracks, he was evaluated by EMS personnel as a precaution.
