BARNSTABLE — The Barnstable Police Department has provided an update on a serious incident that took place at Barnstable High School on March 22 at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Officers were dispatched to the school to assist the School Resource Officer with a mental health emergency involving a juvenile student.
The student, in significant distress, fled to the roof of the building, creating a highly dangerous situation.
Police and EMS personnel secured the rear perimeter of the school, and a modified lockdown was ordered for safety.
During the evolving situation, an employee exited the building and entered the active scene near the student.
Despite repeated lawful orders to return inside, the employee refused to comply, complicating the delicate situation.
Officers took immediate enforcement action to prioritize the student’s safety, successfully resolving the incident.
The student was safely transitioned to appropriate medical services.
