READING — The Reading Police Department arrested and charged a North Andover man with operating under the influence after officers received multiple calls reporting a vehicle being operated erratically.

Munashe Ryan Masiiwa, 20, of North Andover was arrested and charged with the following:
– Operating Under the Influence of Drugs
– Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
– Marked Lanes Violation
– Expired Inspection Sticker Violation

On Saturday, May 11, Reading Police received multiple reports that a gray Volvo hatchback was seen swerving into the oncoming traffic lane on Main St. (Rt. 28) in the area of Forest Glen Road.

The vehicle had reportedly run a red light and stopped and failed to proceed on a green light.

Multiple police units responded, and police soon located a vehicle matching the description.

Police made a traffic stop of the vehicle.

Officers observed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, and the driver, identified as Masiiwa, appeared lethargic with pinpoint pupils.

Masiiwa was arrested after he failed multiple field sobriety tests.

“The Reading Police Department takes roadway safety very seriously, and we will continue to aggressively patrol our streets and respond to any and all reports of suspicious or erratic motorists,” Chief Clark said. “I would also like to thank the members of the public who reported this incident and helped get a dangerous driver off the road.

We encourage our community that if they see something, say something, and this is what happened in this situation.”

Masiiwa was held pending arraignment in Woburn District Court.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
