Holbrook police respond to mistaken rattlesnake call

1 min read

HOLBROOK — The Holbrook Police Department received an unexpected call today when a local business reported a potential rattlesnake sighting inside a vehicle on their premises.

Upon arrival, Holbrook/Avon Animal Control was promptly notified and took charge of the situation.

The animal control officer, with a swift assessment, determined that the snake in question was actually an Eastern Milk Snake, a species native to New England that is non-venomous and often mistaken for the more hazardous rattlesnake.

The Eastern Milk Snake, known for its similar coloration to the rattlesnake, poses no threat to humans and plays a vital role in the local ecosystem by controlling rodent populations.

The snake was safely removed from the vehicle and released back into the wild without incident.
