Task force arrests Rhode Island man on multiple charges from Massachusetts

NEWPORT — Members of the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force, along with officials from the Massachusetts State Police, Worcester Police Department and uniformed members of the Lincoln Woods Barracks, arrested Juan Hernandez-Cruz, 28, on May 10 as a fugitive from justice on multiple charges issued by the Worcester Police Department.

Hernandez-Cruz, who resides at 20 Arthur Street in Warwick, faced an affidavit and arrest warrant for home invasion, armed and masked robbery, kidnapping, armed burglary, assault, larceny from a building, and destruction of property.

The Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force conducted the investigation leading to his arrest.

Hernandez-Cruz was taken into custody without incident, processed at the Wickford Barracks, and then turned over to Third Division District Court officials for arraignment.

In a separate incident, the Special Victims Unit apprehended 47-year-old Shawn Burkhart, a homeless man, for failure to register as a sex offender.

The arrest followed an investigation by the Special Victims Unit and Providence Police Department’s efforts to locate Burkhart.

After processing, he was arraigned in the Sixth District Court and ordered held as a bail violator.

Additionally, over the course of May 8, members of the ACI Investigations Unit charged several individuals following various investigations.

Bennie Vick, 52, Zachary Johnson, 31, Ibrahim Kuyateh, 44, Enrique Miranda, 34, and Ryan Tripp, 29, were all arraigned at Third District Court on charges ranging from domestic-violation no contact orders to felony assault.

Each was released into the custody of the Sheriff’s Department post-arraignment.
