Police investigate late-night shooting in New Haven, suspect at large

NEW HAVEN — New Haven Police responded to reports of gunfire on the 580 block of Central Avenue late Wednesday night, finding two individuals injured and a suspect fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m., prompting a swift police response to the residential area.

Upon arrival, officers witnessed a man escaping from a backyard and immediately began a pursuit.

In the backyard, police discovered two victims with gunshot wounds.

As officers secured the area and awaited medical personnel, they launched a K9 unit search for the fleeing suspect.

The search extended to Edgewood Park but was ultimately called off without locating the individual.

A handgun and at least one shell casing were found close to where the victims were located, providing potential evidence as the investigation unfolds.

Authorities have not released the identities of the injured parties or their current conditions.
