Bridgeport police arrest man for weapons, narcotics violations

BRIDGEPORT — Police apprehended a man Saturday after a brief foot chase, seizing a loaded firearm and a significant quantity of narcotics.

Officers A. Gidden and Montero responded to a call at the corner of State Street and Iranistan Avenue around 4 p.m. regarding a male suspect allegedly selling drugs and possibly armed.

The suspect, identified as Christian Gilbert, fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody.

A loaded Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine and 11 rounds was found on Gilbert.

Additionally, police discovered he was carrying cash, two cell phones, and narcotics prepared for sale.

The seized drugs included 39.3 grams of crack cocaine and 20.6 grams of heroin.

Gilbert faces multiple charges, including carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, interfering with officers, and possession with intent to sell.

His bond was set at $150,000.
