Springfield man arrested for illegal firearm possession after shooting, crash

SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man was arrested early Monday after a shooting and car crash on Longhill Street, according to Springfield Police Department.

Willie Dejesus, 32, was taken into custody around 12:05 a.m. May 6 following the incident that began Sunday night.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Longhill Street around 10:50 p.m. on May 5 after reports of a crash and gunfire.

Upon arrival, police found a car crashed on the front lawn of a residence and heard yelling from inside the home.

Dejesus was later discovered on the second floor, where he had thrown a firearm out of a window before fleeing to the backyard.

He admitted ownership of the crashed vehicle and was apprehended by officers.

The homeowner was unharmed, and police informed her of Dejesus’ arrest.

Dejesus claimed he had fired his gun at individuals who were following him, leading officers to find four shell casings in and around the crash site.

Dejesus faces multiple charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, trespassing with a firearm, defacing property, and breaking and entering for a misdemeanor.
