NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford police detectives have removed three firearms from the streets and arrested three individuals early this week, following a series of investigations and arrests.
On Monday, a search warrant was executed at 40 Roosevelt Street Apt. #3 after Det.
Emily Pacheco concluded her investigation into a cocaine distribution service.
The target of the investigation, 23-year-old Justin Ramos, was connected to the location.
During the search, detectives confiscated cocaine, oxycodone, and packing materials as well as a loaded .380 caliber firearm.
Ramos, along with Carmen Ciuro, was arrested and charged with firearm-related offenses, two counts of possession to distribute a class B drug, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
That same evening, after receiving a tip about a male with an illegal firearm in Montes Park, Detectives Nathaniel Almeida and Eric Boulay apprehended a suspect.
They pat-frisked and found a 19-year-old Tavarus Veal of 64 Hazard Street Apt. #R in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun with a defaced serial number.
Concurrently, Det. Matt Couture pursued and detained a ski-masked individual, later identified as 19-year-old Jorge Santana-Sanchez of 129 Griffin Court.
Santana-Sanchez had discarded a loaded .380 caliber firearm and was found in possession of two plastic bags of marijuana weighing 49.5 grams and $175.
Veal and Santana-Sanchez were arrested on firearm violations.
Santana-Sanchez faces an additional charge of possession to distribute marijuana.
