Newport senior, coach receive top honors at Vermont National Football Foundation Awards

NEWPORT — Senior Watson Laffoon and Coach Lonnie Wade received prestigious accolades at the 29th Annual Vermont National Football Foundation Awards banquet on Sunday at Castleton University.

Laffoon was one of six individuals inducted into the NFF Hall of Fame, recognized for his exceptional football skills, academic excellence, and strong leadership abilities.

Alongside the honor, he was awarded a $500 scholarship.

Coach Wade was named the 2023 Vermont Football Coach of the Year, marking a significant achievement in his career.

Both honorees were celebrated for their contributions to the NCUHS athletics program and their exemplary representation of the school’s sportsmanship and academic values.
