NEWPORT — Northeast Kingdom Learning Services (NEKLS) students and staff joined forces with Green Up Vermont to support the organization’s mission of promoting the conservation of Vermont’s natural landscape and waterways, as well as improving the quality of local communities.
On a beautiful spring day, a group of ten NEKLS students, accompanied by the Center Manager of the Hardwick Learning Center and the High School Completion Program Manager and Transition Specialist of the Newport Learning Center, spent the day cleaning up trash on Main Street, the boardwalk, and Gardner Park in Newport and Hardwick.
The combined efforts of the two locations resulted in the collection of two hundred pounds of trash, contributing to Green Up Vermont’s goal of raising public awareness about the year-round benefits of a litter-free environment and the aesthetic, economic, and health benefits that come with it.
By participating in Green Up Day, NEKLS demonstrated its commitment to the same mission embraced by its students, actively working towards maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of Vermont’s communities.
Green Up Vermont hopes that through initiatives like this, more people will be encouraged to participate in the conservation and improvement of the state’s natural resources and communities.
