Vernon, CT traffic stop leads to drug bust, arrest

VERNON — A routine traffic stop led to a significant drug bust on April 24 when a Vernon detective pulled over a vehicle for speeding on Vernon Avenue.

During the stop, the officer noticed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the car, prompting a search that uncovered 21.5 grams of crack cocaine, 7.3 grams of powder cocaine, 15 pressed fentanyl pills, 14 Oxycodone pills, and $1,631.00 in cash.

The driver, identified as Gary Washington of Bloomfield, was arrested on multiple charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, intent to distribute, and operating a drug factory, along with a traffic violation for speeding.

Washington is facing charges under the specific statutes: 21a-279(a)(2) for second-offense possession of a controlled substance, 21a-267(a) for possession of drug paraphernalia, 21a-278(b)(1A) for possession with intent to distribute, 21a-277(c) for operating a drug factory, and 14-218a for traveling unreasonably fast.

The Vernon Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident.

Washington’s court date has not been disclosed.
