NORTH HAVEN — A harrowing armed carjacking involving an Uber driver and two suspects, one a juvenile, led to a jewelry store robbery in West Haven and the subsequent arrest of 20-year-old Jehki Stewart of Hartford.
According to the North Haven Police Department, the incident began on the evening of March 1 when the Uber driver picked up the two suspects from Hamden.
Upon reaching their destination on North Frontage Road, one of the suspects brandished a firearm and demanded the driver exit the vehicle.
The driver’s initial refusal prompted one suspect to fire the weapon, striking the vehicle’s dashboard.
The driver then complied and left the vehicle, which the suspects used to flee the scene.
Police reported that the suspects proceeded to West Haven, where they committed an armed robbery at a jewelry store.
Through their investigation, authorities gathered enough evidence to establish probable cause for the arrest of Stewart and the unnamed juvenile.
Stewart was processed today for multiple charges, including Robbery 1st Degree with a Firearm Threat, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery 1st Degree with a Firearm Threat, Criminal Possession of a Pistol/Revolver, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle—1st Offense, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny of a Motor Vehicle—1st Offense, and Illegal Discharge of a Firearm.
A $500,000 court-set bond was placed on Stewart, who remains in custody.
Police have indicated that additional arrests related to these crimes are anticipated.
