GREENFIELD — Authorities have identified the victim in the Greenfield homicide discovered Monday night as Christopher Hairston, 35, of Pittsfield.
Greenfield Police were dispatched to a Chapman Street apartment after reports of a foul odor.
Upon arrival, they discovered the body of Hairston.
Investigation led to the identification of a suspect, Taaniel Herberger-Brown, 42, a former tenant of the apartment.
Following the discovery, Greenfield Police, aided by detectives from the State Police Detective Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, went to Albany International Airport to interview Herberger-Brown.
He was detained overnight, and an arrest warrant was issued on a single count of murder Tuesday morning.
The timing for Herberger-Brown’s return to Massachusetts to face the murder charge is currently uncertain.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
Meanwhile, the case is being actively investigated by local police, the State Police Detective Unit, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
