FAIRHAVEN — Following concerns raised about a group of youths cycling recklessly, Fairhaven Police Department is urging the community to review road safety regulations for bicyclists and motorists.
The department received multiple complaints about the young cyclists today, as the town enjoys warmer weather.
Officers responded to the situation and located the group in question.
According to the law, one youth’s bicycle was confiscated and placed on a 15-day hold.
All parents of the involved individuals were notified of the incident.
In a statement, the Fairhaven Police emphasized the importance of speaking with children about road safety.
“We don’t want to see anyone hurt,” the statement read, highlighting the need for both cyclists and vehicle drivers to be aware of and adhere to the rules of the road.
The police department’s reminder comes at a time when more residents are likely to be outdoors, enjoying the spring weather on foot or by bike.
Local authorities recommend that both cyclists and motorists familiarize themselves with safety practices to prevent accidents and ensure everyone’s safety.
