NEWPORT — Chief Travis Bingham announced that Newport police arrested 27-year-old Tucker Jacobs on Wednesday, charging him with receiving stolen property, violating conditions of release, and resisting arrest.

The incident began around 5:18 p.m. when police were alerted about an unauthorized vehicle parked at a local apartment complex. Upon investigation, officers identified Jacobs, who was not driving but had entered the apartment building, breaching a court-ordered curfew.

When police attempted to approach him in the apartment, Jacobs fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after on Centreal Street, a few blocks from the scene.

Assistance from Vermont State Police and the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department was crucial in the capture of Jacobs, who is now being held on $10,000 bail.

He is scheduled for arraignment at Orleans District Court on Thursday.
