BOSTON — A 22-year-old Dorchester man was arrested Wednesday afternoon on firearm and drug charges after a police patrol responding to community complaints about drug activity in the area.
At about noon, officers from the Boston Police Department’s District C-11 Drug Control Unit observed a group of individuals smoking marijuana in a vehicle on Dorchester Avenue.
When they approached the vehicle, a man later identified as Ronny Lara-Arias exited and attempted to flee on foot after dropping a scooter.
Following a brief foot chase, officers witnessed Lara-Arias discard an object, which was later determined to be a Taurus G2C firearm with a magazine containing fifteen rounds.
In addition to the firearm, police recovered plastic packaging of marijuana that appeared to be prepared for sale.
Lara-Arias now faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, distribution of class D, and possession with intent to distribute class D.
He is slated for arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
