DERBY — Vermont State Police are investigating a burglary at Wright’s Sports Shop where a male suspect forcibly entered the store and stole ten handguns. The incident occurred on Monday, following the activation of an alarm at the business located at 48 Community Drive.
Responding to the alarm, state troopers and Newport Police Department officers arrived at the scene to find the front door of the shop had been breached. Surveillance video reviewed by authorities showed the suspect, described as wearing an oversized hoodie, Muck-style boots, masked, and sweatpants, using a prybar to break in at approximately 11:42 p.m.
The footage captured the suspect smashing a shelf and loading the handguns into a reusable grocery bag before fleeing. The police have released still images of the suspect and are seeking assistance from the public.
