WILLIAMSTOWN — Authorities announced Monday that a body discovered just off the Taconic Crest Trail in New York State has been identified as Fae Morgana Barbone, a Williamstown woman who had been missing since early March.
The Williamstown Police Department expressed their sadness upon receiving notification from the New York State Police regarding the grim discovery not far from the Massachusetts state line.
Barbone was last seen in the area, and her disappearance had sparked a substantial search effort involving multiple agencies over a series of days.
The confirmation brings a tragic closure to the case that had concerned the community and prompted widespread search and rescue operations.
The circumstances surrounding Barbone’s disappearance and subsequent death are still under investigation.
