WORCESTER — A routine traffic stop by the Worcester Police Department’s Neighborhood Response Team early Friday morning led to the discovery of a loaded handgun with a defaced serial number and the arrest of two individuals on multiple charges.

At approximately 12:42 a.m., officers patrolling Pleasant St observed a vehicle being driven erratically.

The vehicle lacked a valid inspection sticker and had a non-functioning plate light.

Upon stopping the vehicle on Summer St, the officers approached and noticed several open containers of alcohol inside.

The driver, identified as 30-year-old Haley Jano from Oxford, and the passenger, 34-year-old Daniel Jimenez of Loxwood St, were asked to exit the vehicle.

Both denied possessing any weapons when questioned by the police.

However, a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a handgun.

Neither Jano nor Jimenez held a firearm license.

Both individuals were arrested and face charges including Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card.
