Orleans County hosts thrilling Battle at the Border basketball event

NEWPORT — Forty-four teams gathered across Orleans County this past weekend to compete in the annual Battle at the Border AAU basketball tournament, with games hosted at North Country, Derby Elementary, Lake Region, and NCUJHS. Young athletes from various age brackets battled for top honors, with the Falcons taking first place in the high school boys’ category.

The tournament saw spirited competition among teams, culminating in the crowning of several new champions. Here are the winners and runners-up in each category:

In the 3/4 boys division, the Bulldogs took first place, followed by NEK Elevate in second. The 3/4 girls division saw the Net Rippers clinching first, with the Lamoille Lady Lancers coming in second. The 5/6 boys division was won by the Northeast Celtics, with the Falcons securing the second spot. In the 5/6 girls category, the Lake Region Lady Rangers were runners-up, with no champion specified.

The 7/8 boys division also saw the Northeast Celtics taking first place, with the Falcons again in second. The 7/8 girls category was topped by the Lake Region Lady Rangers, with the Blazers finishing second. In the high school girls division, Northern Fire claimed first place, with the Falcons as runners-up.
