Newport man charged with second degree domestic assault

NEWPORT — Police have arrested a local man on charges of second degree domestic assault following an incident late Monday evening.

Dana Malshuk, 55, of Newport, was taken into custody after officers responded to a report at a West Main Street residence around 9:36 p.m.

The victim was found bloodied and expressing fear of Malshuk, according to Chief Travis Bingham of the Newport Police Department.

Upon arrival, Malshuk refused to open the door, prompting officers to force entry.

He was arrested without further issue.

Records show Malshuk has a prior conviction for domestic assault dating back to 2003.

Malshuk has been lodged at the Northern State Correctional Facility with bail set at $10,000.

He is scheduled for arraignment in Orleans Criminal Court on Tuesday.

The Newport Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
