Bernardston police seize drugs, weapons during traffic stop

BERNARDSTON — A routine traffic stop by Bernardston Police Officer Zukowski on April 5 led to the arrest of two New Hampshire residents and the seizure of a significant amount of illegal drugs and weapons.

After observing several moving violations, Officer Zukowski initiated the stop and, suspecting drug activity, called for a K9 unit.

K-9 Artie from the Montague Police Department alerted officers to the presence of drugs in the vehicle.

A subsequent search uncovered 109 grams of crack cocaine, 16 grams of powder cocaine, heroin, 12 methadone pills, 4 Clorazepam pills, and three double-edged throwing stars.

The male suspect, with a lengthy criminal record, faces charges including Trafficking a Class B Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Substance, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (3 Counts), and Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws.

His bail was set at $40,000.

The female suspect is charged with Trafficking a Class B Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Substance, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (3 Counts), Possession of a Class A Substance, Possession of a Class B Substance, Possession of a Class E Substance, and Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws.

Her bail was set at $20,000.

Bernardston Police Officers Chabot and Waldron assisted with the transport, booking, and evidence processing.

Bernardston Police Department extended their gratitude to Friends of Northfield Police Department Officer Cobileanschi, Massachusetts State Police Trooper Wozniak, Montague Police Department Officer Ruddock, and K9 Artie for their assistance in the operation.
