SOUTH ROYALTON — A house fire on Broad Brook Road prompted a multi-department response after a family was forced to flee their home early Saturday morning.
Evan and Megan Burnham, both 41, safely evacuated their single-family residence before the South Royalton Fire Department arrived at the scene around 9:30 a.m. following a distress call at 11:46 a.m.
Firefighters, with assistance from neighboring departments, worked diligently to control and extinguish the blaze.
Fire Chief Brock, overseeing the operation, later enlisted the help of the Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit to investigate the cause of the fire.
The investigators determined that the fire originated on the south side of the house, near the utility room.
However, due to significant damage, they were not able to identify the specific cause but noted that it was not suspected to be caused by direct human actions.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Vermont State Police in Williston at 802-878-7111.
