NEWPORT — The Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging (NEKCOA) announced the appointment of Elijah Capron as an Options Counselor in their Newport office, a position recently vacated by Lynne White who is transitioning to a Case Manager role for the same area.

Capron brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as the Town Health Officer for Derby. In this role, he managed public health concerns and conducted rental property inspections. Additionally, his background includes teaching a beginner’s construction course for a non-profit organization in the Burlington area.

His educational qualifications include an Associate degree in Liberal Studies with a business concentration from the Community College of Vermont. Meg Burmeister, the Executive Director of NEKCOA, expressed excitement about Capron’s appointment, praising his “spirited enthusiasm” for helping people explore resources and advocating for their needs.

She believes Capron will be instrumental in supporting the older and disabled adults of the community, offering person-centered advice and lifestyle options that align with their goals.

Originally from Newport, Capron is known for his enjoyment of outdoor activities, which complements his community-focused career.
