Southbury police crack $25,000 jewelry heist, suspect to be extradited

SOUTHBURY — After a detailed investigation, Southbury Police Department has identified and obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect in connection with a burglary that resulted in the theft of $25,000 worth of jewelry from a home on Colonial Drive on Oct. 13.

The suspect, who is currently serving time in an upstate New York prison for unrelated charges, is set to be released in 2029.

Southbury Police have secured a detainer to ensure the suspect is extradited back to Connecticut once released.

The individual will then face charges related to the Southbury burglary with a court-set bond of $500,000.

The breakthrough in the case came through collaborative efforts with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Trumbull Police Department, the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Division, the Rensselaer County New York District Attorney’s Office, and the Rensselaer County New York Sheriff’s Office.
