FAIR HAVEN — A Wells man was arrested on charges of DUI refusal and leaving the scene of an accident after attempting to purchase alcohol at a local supermarket, authorities said Monday.
Fair Haven Police took Adrian D. Montbrand, 41, into custody on March 30 at about 8:45 p.m. following a motor vehicle complaint.
A caller reported Montbrand stumbling and struggling to walk at Shaws Supermarket.
Officers located Montbrand driving on S. Main St. at approximately 5 mph.
During the stop, police observed signs of intoxication.
Montbrand failed field sobriety exercises and refused to provide a breath sample, resulting in a DUI refusal charge.
Further investigation revealed that Montbrand’s vehicle had front-end damage and two flat front tires.
Authorities determined that he had lost control at the intersection of Washington St and West St, hit the curb, and subsequently drove through a park, damaging a fence before exiting on the park’s east side.
Montbrand was arrested and released with a summons to appear in Rutland District Court at a later date.
The investigation was conducted by Pt. Cheri Mcdermott and Chief William Humphries.
