New London police arrest suspect in December shooting

NEW LONDON — New London Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a shooting that occurred on Dec. 3.

Raashid Cox, 34, of Norwich was taken into custody at approximately 2:46 p.m. on March 29 following a lengthy investigation into the incident that took place near the intersection of Bank St. and Golden St. last year.

Police responded to reports of gunfire around 12:21 a.m. on the incident date and found evidence at the scene, including damage to two parked and unoccupied vehicles.

No injuries were reported.

Detectives from the Investigative Services Division, who processed the scene and collected evidence, have been actively working on the case.

Their investigation led to an arrest warrant for Cox, who faces charges of criminal attempt assault in the first degree, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment in the first degree.

Cox is currently being held on a $750,000 cash or surety bond.

As the investigation remains active, further arrests may ensue.

New London Police remind the public that all accused individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
