The search came to a solemn end when Read’s body was discovered in a wooded area about a mile from where she was last seen.

The Gouldsboro Police Department expressed their condolences to Read’s family, acknowledging the challenging circumstances they are facing.

The statement also extended gratitude to the community members for their support, ranging from search efforts to providing food.

Several agencies, including the Maine Warden Service, Maine Marine Patrol, Schoodic EMS, Gouldsboro Fire Department, Search & Rescue teams, and the Civil Air Patrol, were commended for their extraordinary efforts during the search.

The body has been released to the Medical Examiner’s Office, which will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death, following standard procedures for such cases.
