RUTLAND — Several businesses have fallen prey to a string of thefts as thieves target used cooking oil in the area, police reported Monday.
In the latest incident, two men attempted to steal used cooking oil from a business in Rutland over the weekend using a U-Haul van.
The suspects were foiled in their attempt but remain at large.
The Rutland Police Department is increasing patrols and is calling on business owners to secure their storage areas.
Authorities are also asking the community to report any suspicious behavior, particularly around storage areas where used cooking oil is kept.
Police urge the public to remain vigilant and to contact authorities with any information that could lead to the apprehension of the individuals involved in these thefts.
