ESSEX — Following a multi-agency investigation, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a bank robbery in Essex last month.
Essex Police identified Samuel Blatt, 32, of Burlington, as the suspect in the Feb. 28 robbery at M&T Bank.
Blatt, who was also a person of interest in other incidents, was apprehended by the Burlington Police Department (BPD) in Burlington on March 15 at 2:55 p.m. The arrest was made without incident.
The successful capture of Blatt was the result of collaborative efforts between Essex Police, the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department, the Winooski Police Department, the Chittenden County Gun Violence Task Force, and several other Federal, State, and local agencies.
The original incident occurred at approximately 3:58 p.m. on Feb. 28 when Essex Police were alerted to a bank robbery at M&T Bank on 50 Sunderland Way.
The male suspect, described as approximately 5’10”- 6’ with a slim build, left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash after presenting a note that demanded money.
Although no weapons were displayed during the robbery, the suspect was considered dangerous.
Despite initial efforts to locate the suspect immediately after the robbery, he was not found until the recent coordinated operation led to his arrest.
The investigation into the robbery and any potential related incidents continues.
