HYANNIS — A Hyannis man was arrested last night on charges of assault with intent to murder and related firearms offenses after he turned himself in at the Plymouth Police Headquarters.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., 26-year-old Paulo Farias entered the police station lobby, removed his shirt, knelt on the ground, raised his hands above his head, and was observed holding his phone.

Lieutenant George Driscoll and Officer Kyle Kreitzer responded to the scene, where they heard a voice on the phone, claiming to be a Barnstable Police detective, informing them that Farias had just shot someone and was wanted for attempted murder.

Farias was taken into custody without incident and was later transferred to the Barnstable Police, who are now leading the investigation into the incident.
