BERKLEY — During a routine traffic stop last night, Berkley Police officers confiscated a replica airsoft handgun and a switchblade knife from a juvenile driver.
The officers conducted the vehicle stop and, upon inspection, discovered the items that, at first glance, could be mistaken for a real firearm and a prohibited weapon.
The juvenile, whose identity has not been disclosed due to their age, was released to the custody of a parent following the incident.
Berkley Police Department issued a reminder that under Massachusetts General Laws, it is illegal for anyone under 18 to possess airsoft or BB gun-type items, whether they appear realistic or not, with only a few exceptions permitted.
The juvenile in question has received a court summons in connection to the seized items.
